WHAT IS A VISA?
Visa is a permit to enter a country. It is granted for short-term and temporary visits.
WHAT KIND OF PHOTO DO I NEED FOR A VISA?
Before the trip, it is good to find out your destination country’s regulations for traveling and what documents are needed.
You can get the information from the destination country’s officials. We take visa photos for several different countries, paper photos or an electronic version to your email.
There are specific criteria for visa photos that can vary by country. In our stores, we know most of the criteria but it is good if you know them as well
especially if you are traveling to a more rare country. Along with websites of different countries’ embassies, there is an international air transport association that include a service on their website
where you can explore visa and passport regulations of different countries. You can get there from here.*
NOTE!
It is important to check the regulations for traveling for each country you plan to travel to. For example, what kind of passport do you need to travel to each country or is a visa required.

A Finnish passport photo is not accepted into all visas! The criteria for visa photos vary by country. Remember to find out the criteria before applying for the visa!

THE MOST COMMON VISAS AND THEIR REGUIREMENTS

US
Multiple visa types, such as work and tourist visa
The applicant must fill and send a form DS-160 visa application before visiting the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
- The form can only be submitted online
- You need to upload a photo taken in the last 6 months
- You need to take paper photos with you to the interview

- ESTA
- The Visa Waiver Program enables citizens of Finland to travel to the US for tourism or business for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa. Travelers are required to apply for authorization through the ESTA at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta.

Criteria for the photo
- In color
- 51×51 (2×2)
- Head between 22mm-35mm (from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head)
- Eyeglasses are not allowed
- Taken in the last 6 months
- White background
- In JPEG file format
- Equal to or less than 240 kB
- 600×600 pixels
RUSSIA
Multiple visa types, such as tourist, business and student visa
Find out what kind of visa you need based on your visit and fill the application at https://visa.kdmid.ru/
The application must be submitted to the Russia visa service centre filled, printed and signed.
- When you’re applying for the visa, you will need
- A passport that is valid at least 6 months after the trip and has 2 empty pages
- 35×45 sized passport photo in color and that is taken in the last 6 months
- A travel insurance certificate
- Note! Passport is held at the Russian Embassy/Consulate during processing!

E-VISA
Citizens of Finland and 52 other countries can travel to St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad and Leningrad with an e-visa
You can apply for the visa at http://electronic-visa.kdmid.ru/index_en.html and it will be granted in 4 days
It can be applied 20 to 4 days before the trip and it comes into effect when it is granted. The period of validity is 30 days and you can stay in the areas in question for 8 days.
For the e-visa you will need a passport that is valid at least 6 months after the trip, a passport photo in color and that is taken in the last 6 months and travel insurance.
Criteria for the photo:
- In color
- 35×45
- Same guidelines with the Finnish passport photo
CHINA
Multiple visa types, such as tourist and student visa
For the visa you need to book a time and fill an application online at http://bio.visaforchina.org/HEL2_EN/.
The visa should be applied about 1 month before the trip but not more than 3 months before.
Your passport must be valid for 6 months at the time of applying and it has to have 2 empty pages.

Criteria for the photo:
- 33×48
- Head between 28mm-33mm (from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head)
- Ears must be visible
- White shirt is not allowed
- Heavy framed eyeglasses are not allowed
- Jewelry is not allowed
- Taken within 6 months
- White background
- In JPEG file format
- File size 40 kb-120 kB
- Between 354×472 and 420×560 pixels
