WHAT IS A PASSPORT?

A passport is an identification document for example for traveling. A passport is normally valid for 5 years!
ELECTRONIC OR PAPER PASSPORT PHOTO?
You don’t need a paper photo when you’re applying for a passport! We will send your photo directly to the police, and you will receive a retrieval code via text message. With the retrieval code, you can apply for a passport online or at a police station. Remember to keep the retrieval code safe, your photo can be found with it!
PAPER PHOTO FOR A DRIVING LICENCE!
For a driving licence you will need paper passport photos. Electronic photo is only accepted if you have recently applied for a passport or ID-card. The existing photo will be copied to the new applied diving licence. Most countries require a paper photo for a visa.

3 STEPS TO APPLY FOR A PASSPORT ONLINE

COME TO US FOR A PHOTOGRAPHY!

We will send your photo directly to the police. You will receive the retrieval code (valid for 6 months) via SMS in a minute.

FILL THE APPLICATION ONLINE

Fill the application online at https://asiointi.poliisi.fi. Paste the retrieval code on the correct field, pay the passport and choose the collection point. The delivery usually takes 5-8 business days!

COLLECT THE PASSPORT

The passport will be delivered to a collection point of your choosing. You will receive a notice of arrival when you can collect your passport! The notice includes a shipment ID which you need when you collect your passport. You must also be identified, which can be done via passport or ID-card (driving licence is not accepted). You can also authorize another person to collect your passport. They must have a valid identification document.

Usually, you can finish the whole application online if your fingerprints have been registered in the last 6 years and your name remains the same as in the previous passport. If these requirements are not met, you can make the application online and it will be finished after you have been at a police station and you have been identified. The system will inform you if you will have to go to the police station when you are making the online application.

WHAT IS A RETRIEVAL CODE?

You will need a retrieval code when you’re filling your application online or at a police station. Your photo can be found with the code. You will receive the retrieval code via text message.

The picture for a passport must be taken in the last 6 months. You can use the same photo to apply for both passport and ID-card!

IN A HURRY WITH A PASSPORT?

Passport can be delivered to you with an expedited delivery time for an additional fee!

RAPID PASSPORT

Passport can be delivered to you with an expedited delivery time for an additional fee. Rapid delivery takes at most 3 working days, if you have placed the order on a weekday before 9am and there is room in the express quota.

EXPRESS PASSPORT

Express passport is a passport delivered with an expedited delivery time. The new passport will be delivered on the same day by 4pm if you have placed the order online before 9am and there is room in the express quota. If you make the application at a police station OR the online application requires identification, the time limit is 11am. If you place the order later or there is no room in the express quota for that day, you can collect your passport the next day at 4pm. You can apply for an express passport at any police station but the new passport will be delivered only to collection points underneath:

WHAT NOW!

LOST PASSPORT
If you have lost your passport it is important to contact the police immediately to prevent any abuse. You can report online or at a police station. If you are aboard you can contact the embassy. After making the report you can apply for a new passport normally.
PASSPORT IS BROKEN
If your passport is broken, contact the police or while abroad the embassy. You should avoid traveling with a broken travel document as your trip could be stopped at border control.
WHAT TO DO TO AN OLD PASSPORT?
When you get a new passport your old one will expire and it can no longer be used.

You will get instructions along with the new passport on how to dispose of the old passport. You also can return the old one to the police.
